The on going economic crises, has revealed what fear can do in the life of the believer and unbeliever alike. Many decided to go on hunger strike so as to save for tomorrow while others abandoned their projects because no one knows what tomorrow will bring. It is more painful that many more took laws into their hands and created enmity for themselves in the sight of God when they took their own lives for the mere feeling that this economic crises; may get worse than anticipated. What a world!

The only world I never had the opportunity of finding out how they fared all along is the Jewish but from the account of the scriptures, I can already perceive that they were not moved since from the word “GO”, they have readily been taught the power of giving. And since it is natural for a giver to receive, I believe there was no need for them to panic because they know from experience that calamity time is prosperity time as proven by their actions in the days of the early church.

What can best be described as calamity than the persecutions they faced at the church’s early hours? Still at that however, the Bible records that: “Nor was there anyone among them who lacked; for all who were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold, and laid them at the apostles’ feet; and they distributed to each as anyone had need” (Acts 4: 32-35).

That is the spirit, for givers do not lack especially cheerful ones who do not give grudgingly. If you watch closely, you will realize that they were not compelled to give but they did just this from their hearts because; it is the training they have had from their infancy to give unto God to support His work. By these acts of giving, they leave an indelible mark in the heart of the Possessor of heaven and earth in whose hands, the heart of the kings are and He will in-turn touch their hearts to release unto His people the wealth of the gentiles.

Those who have been able to turn the adversities of the on going economic crises into prosperity are those who understand that money is meant to work for man and not for man to work for it and as such, since principles do not change, they have continued to eat its dividends. It is saddening to observe that even believers have joined the wagon of those talking about economic melt down instead of understanding that since the word of God says that all things works out together for good, all they needed is key into that scripture and their economies will begin to mould up. It has however failed to be the position of things because we find it difficult to live out the word of God especially when it comes to giving.

We have refused to give and have therefore remained where we are and instead of blaming ourselves, we point accusing fingers and shift blames while those who keyed into the word of God are prospering and will continue to prosper until they become very prosperous. The Bible tells the story of the famine in the days of Elijah and the Almighty God in order to save a widow who is a giver, sent his servant to her. Was it not possible for God to have sent Elijah to the house of either the king or a millionaire in that city or do you think there was none during that time? Sure there were but God remembered; and that woman’s giving came up to Him as a memorial and He decided to allow her witness a turn around.

The ensuing conversation when she met the servant of God would have made even today’s believer to rain insults on Elijah but this woman was humble to the core. She was on her way to bring water to a foreigner who asked for it in a time like that wherein there was drought; when the intruder also requested for a morsel of bread. What would have been your reaction if you were her? Ninety five percent of today’s believer would have dubbed their pastor as being heartless but this woman because her life is about giving, politely responded: “As the Lord your God lives, I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a little oil in a jar; and see, I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it and die” (1Kings 17:12).

It is interesting to see that the bin of flour was not used up nor did the jar of oil run dry until the famine was over as the servant of God did spoke. The woman and her son did not die after all because God divinely intervened and came to her rescue.  Can God not do same again or are there no servants of His? He can do more than this and have prepared vessels through which He can accomplish these; however we have stopped the hand of God from moving on our behalf by our inability to understand and apply God’s principles. As such, we have continued to work for money instead of money working for us.

Most often the excuses which most people come up with over their inability to give unto God has to do with pastors or ministers abusing the said money. It is wrong for anyone to become a pastor because he thinks that is the fastest way of making money and most of those that did such ended up in becoming very, very poor. Still at that, if you think there are pastors who abuse church funds, what about those who do not! Do not close the door of your own blessing by hardening your heart but give and allow God treat its misuse. More over, governments do not allow such misuse. But come to think about it; how do you know a pastor misuses money; is he the church financial secretary or treasurer?

It is wrong the way most people jump into conclusion in matters of this nature. Is it proper to insinuate this just because the man of God changed his cloth, car, house or what have you? If the CEO of a company can change all those, how much more the one who prays down these blessings! If you want to give, please do and receive your blessing. Stop thinking that the man of God; lives because of your tithe and offering. Have you not read of God providing for Elijah through a raven? He sure has many ways of feeding His servants who are faithful unto Him. More over men of God apart from being blessed by those who understands the power in doing that (Matthew 10:40-42), are into many things through which the Lord has favored them such as writing and singing in the case of full time ministers and non full timers who are accountants, lawyers, Doctors just to mention a few.

There was a time I used to go to my account every month and I saw a certain sum paid in by unknown persons. It continued until a time I was a torn in the flesh of the devil (and will continue to be) and he and his agents decided to play a very fast one so as to distract my attention and they came up with a lie. So many things happened then because man is not interested in investigating the things he hears and find out the truth. Thank God who in His Omniscience have continued to exonerate His people!

As a result of what they heard, this person stopped that support. All I did was thank God for who ever it might have been and prayed saying: “God prove that you are my source” and I tell you, He opened many more doors of blessing. God is the source and any other is a resource. Resources are temporary but the Source is permanent and unlimited; as such, whenever you give unto God, remember you are planting a seed which will grow and bear fruits. If you therefore refuse to plant, you will also not harvest.

Be wise, let your money work for you by giving to Him who gives you power to acquire wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18) and He will continue to give you the wisdom of investment so that you will have more to give to support His work. God wants you to prosper but the secret of prospering lies in giving. If you think you are already prospering even without giving, then try giving and you will experience explosion in every endeavor of yours. I am speaking as a prophet of God whose word says: “Believe the Lord your God and you shall be established, believe His prophets and you shall prosper” (2Chronicles 20:20).

Therefore, I challenge you to try giving to the work of God from your heart and by the next time I come your way, you will give a testimony that money, have started working for you instead of the usual ways you have tried to work for it but in vain. This is your year of financial break through as long as you learn to trust God and believe His word as it proceeds from the mouth of His prophets such as this one you have read. Amen.

God bless you richly.

Bible reading for today

Come unto me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest unto your souls.
